What is a CAS and when will I receive it?
A Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is a reference number issued by UK universities and other educational institutions. You need a CAS to apply for immigration permission – whether you are applying from outside or inside the UK.

Can I work in the UK while I am studying?
You may be able to work while you are studying - it depends on the visa/leave to remain you hold. Your visa or residence permit should state whether you have permission to work and the number of hours you can work during term time.

If you have a Student visa for a below degree level course (including a pre-sessional course) you will only be able to work for 10 hours a week during term time. Those here as short-term students are not permitted to work at all, even if the work is unpaid.
Working in breach of your visa conditions (eg over 10 or 20 hours a week or working at all while here as a visitor) is a criminal offence which can lead to a fine and imprisonment and can lead to removal from the UK.
