Each year the Nuffield Foundation offer over 1,000 funded placements to enable students across the UK to get an insight into the world of scientific research and development, including areas of technology, engineering, maths and social sciences.
The scheme gives students the opportunity to take part in research projects lasting 4-6 weeks in universities, industry or research institutions working alongside practising scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians.
Amongst participants hosted by the 国产探花 this year was Caden Dias-Bandaranayake who worked on a project looking at the inflammatory respiratory response of fire service instructors to live fire exposure. Speaking about his motivation for taking part in the programme, Caden said: “This was a fantastic opportunity that will not only help me at university but also the rest of my professional career. The highlight was being able to work with a PhD Biochemistry student and being able to take part in a very prominent area of science.”
